¿Es mejorable la cobertura de pensiones de los trabajadores independientes latinoamericanos?

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar brevemente las características del mercado laboral en América Latina y su
relación con el sistema de pensiones poniendo énfasis en la cobertura de los trabajadores independientes, así como las experiencias de algunos países para ampliar la cobertura, con el objetivo de recomendar el diseño de mejores políticas. En cuanto a las experiencias de los países de la región, se observa que en la mayoría existe la voluntad de obligar a los trabajadores independientes de relativos altos ingresos a incorporarse a los regímenes generales de pensiones, aunque con distintos resultados en materia de contribución.
